red letter day from Making A Lather

I have the next word for my rsc project - this time in red.

can you believe 2021 is almost over? Time has flown and now for some odd reason, people are asking me if I am ready for Christmas. Christmas? what? umm no.

easy breezy - 1 1/2 in

5 quilts december 13 from Making A Lather

While I am sitting here, our youngest son, who still lives with us, has broken into a round of laughter. I love his laugh and hearing him happy.

My 5 quilts progress report.

1. boho heart -I am trying to concentrate on the blocks and strips I need for the second section of group one.

2..full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.- I made another word in aqua

3. rhododendron mystery - hunter Clue two is half done and ready to finish

4. fish school - this is a year long project for ...

rainbow scraps in aqua from Making A Lather

I have added a new word to my rsc project. I had forgotten how much I like to make letters. I use Lori Holt's alphabet book.

I am trying to prepare for next year and a new rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy project. I want to do strings and crumbs by color so I have started sorting the big bucket into colors. I was afraid  I wouldn't find enough of each color, but, alas, I have plenty. And some have already been sorted into baggies. If I do a little every day, I may have it sorted ...

fabric scraps from Making A Lather

I am doing a bit of catch up on my rainbow projects for rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I had an idea to make a few words. This may be one of those squirrel projects. We will see.

I always have scraps to cut so I spent time googling how to organize my scraps instead of cutting them. LOL
I discovered I like what I am already doing, but it was good to realize that others share in the frustration. I have enough scraps to last a lifetime and never touch "real" fabric. But it is always messy.

more full stop blocks from Making A Lather

I have a few period blocks for the full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I am not joining them, until, I start assembling the top. I am still missing one row, but, I am not sure which one. I would like to see if I can keep going on this one instead of putting it in the ufo closet. But, rhododendron mystery at quiltville has officially started and I will turn some attention to that. I still want to keep going on my 5 quilt project, so, we will see.

I ...

aqua question mark from Making A Lather

It's going to be a beautiful fall day here- Blue sky and sunshine but 32 degrees. We have no real commitments and can stay home and do some work. We had three doctor appointments last week -all is well.

I worked on the full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

I procrastinated the question mark block since the color was aqua. I finally have them made and ready to go. They weren't as difficult as I was afraid they would be for me. I think I am missing the dots ...

dashing from Making A Lather

I did orange dashes for the full stop quilt that Angela is doing. I need to do the question mark, and I think I am missing another one. This is part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I can't figure out a way to get the whole row in a picture.... yet. It would help if I had more empty flat spaces.

Yesterday at Friday group, we had some impressive quilts getting close to a finish.

rainbow quilt finish from Making A Lather

I took 2 years of sewing with the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy to make the pieces for this single  Irish chain by melissa correy. I made the 4 patches in 2019, and the sashings in 2020 according to the color of the month. The top was a top in  November 2020. It was an easy, unstressful pattern, and then, it was a great quilt.

I used a light gray sheet for the back, and natural white thread. I made a scrappy binding and attached it by machine. I used a paisley pantograph for the quilting. It's 84 ...

still orange from Making A Lather

Somehow this week, I sewed a few orange color blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I have strip sets to sew a couple more blocks. I am just a little behind.

I am thinking about rsc 2022. My plan for 2021 was to work on ufos in the color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. It worked great the first part of the year, but, then, I became bogged down. However, it was a great catalyst to dig out ufos and make decisions to move them forward. But, I really want to ...

green houses from Making A Lather

Just a little sewing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. They are not very limey, but, it won't matter in the big picture. I seem to be behind, mentally, on the rainbow sewing.

orange crumb stars from Making A Lather

Most of my orange scraps are gone, but, I have strings and crumbs which I needed for crumb stars and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this month. I am using 4 1/2 inch squares of crumbs for the center and 2 1/2 inch HSTS for the star points. With the year almost over ( how did that happen), I will be figuring out what to do with the stars I have made this year.

It has gotten cold this fall. We need to clean out the garden. I was really sad to put long pants and socks ...

orange tiny houses from Making A Lather

I have orange tiny houses for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I may have 2 rounds of oranges in the box already. But every year the scraps are different. And, it will take forever to make enough tiny houses  to make a quilt.

I found a box of leftover pieces from Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt frolic, and decided to put the HSTS together as pinwheels. I have them next to the sewing machine and I use them as leader/enders until they are gone.

tiny orange scraps from Making A Lather

I had one lonely aqua 16 patch color block from last month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

then, I worked on 4 psp 20 blocks in this month's color - orange. I am amazed at how many different oranges there are, but, I was also surprised how few oranges of any size, I have left in the scrap bins.

My Friday group has started making Boho heart by Jen Kingwell. I am doing it in rainbow colors. Part of the fun of a group project is seeing how different all of our hearts will be when finished ...

ode to joey quilt finish from Making A Lather

I have an actual finish this week. My ode to Joey quilt is almost ready for the quilt show the first of October. I just need to make a label. I have worked on this quilt for almost three years. First, I made the words by color for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy in 2019. And then, I have slowly been sewing it together. I began this as a way to heal a broken heart, and it has become very meaningful to me.

80x85 = about 20 yards of fabric

I used a wide flannel back and a scrappy ...

a few tiny houses from Making A Lather

I can't believe this all I have ready for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this week.

tiny houses in a square

I did get the purple semi colons done for the full stop quilt that Angela is doing.

I have been working on sea swept and quilting ode to Joey. And the garden is in need of attention. We have tomatoes to can. We are dehydrating some, but, I will need to can.  I did "harvest" some elderberries from our woods and near our church. It takes a lot to make even a tincture. So, I press ...

crumb stars from Making A Lather

I had fun digging in the scrap bag for aqua crumbs. I knew I wanted to make crumb stars this week and with the color of aqua. Aqua is the color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I was able to make 9 centers and then, 9 blocks.

I found all of these crumbs in the crumb and string bins. I had cleaned them all into one place as we prepared for company. I was afraid, if I broke them out of hiding, a mess would ensue. But, I think I outsmarted it.

I am ...

quilt top ready from Making A Lather

In an effort to make it longer than wider, I added wonky stars to the top and bottom of my ode to Joey quilt, and, now, it is a top. I have a large flannel  wide back for the back and a multicolored binding sewn together. I made this for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. And, now, it lives in the "to be quilted" closet annex.  I have a 'sleep in your own bed" retreat this weekend. I haven't even decided what I am taking to work on while I am there. I have a Christmas quilt ...

crayon quilt top from Making A Lather

It's a top. I made this crayon quilt using the colors of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy last year or the year before. Then, I decided I wanted to make something different for the border, so it took longer than expected.

the grass and the wind were a problem

I found a pretty blue cotton sheet for the back, and made a scrappy binding. Now, it will join its friends in the "to be quilted" closet which is chock a block full. There may need to be a spill over location soon.

I have been sewing hsts ...

goals from Making A Lather

The rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy color for August is aqua. I remembered country roads that is ready to be quilted and decided that will be my goal for one monthly goal at elm street quilts. I have some charity quilts to quilt first, then I will give it a turn on the longarm.
